Popular Nigerian Islamic singer, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso has passed away
The prolific artiste, Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso will be buried on Tuesday.
The news of her death was first shared by popular Ilorin-based cleric Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah on his official Facebook page on Tuesday morning.
Her loss is deeply felt among her fans and the broader Islamic music scene – with the news of her death widely shared.
The PUNCH reports that Solatul Janazzah (Prayer for the Dead) was earlier observed for the singer in Ojota, Lagos State on Tuesday.
During the prayer, monitored via TikTok live, it was said that the final prayer and burial would take place in Ijebu Aiyepe, Ogun State on Tuesday at noon.
Also, a popular Islamic channel on YouTube and Social Media, YAYI TV, confirmed this in a Facebook post.
It read, “Alh. Rukayat Gawat is no more May Allah be pleased with her – Amin.
“Her funeral (Janazah prayer) will take place in Ijebu Aiyepe Ogun State today by noon – may Allah be pleased with her soul”.
Brother to the deceased, Jubril Gawat, who is a Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu quoted a Quran verse on his X account on Tuesday morning.
His post read, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return”. Q 2 V 156
His post has garnered so much traction with followers and associates expressing their condolences.
She was well-known for her captivating voice and religious music that resonated with many in the Muslim community.
Media reports revealed that the late artiste on 14 September 2024, did a 12-year remembrance for her missing dad, the popular Islamic presenter and broadcaster, Aremu Gawat, whose whereabouts remained unknown since July 2012.
