The Federal Government has promised to assist Jigawa State in rebuilding and rehabilitating Majia town, the location of the fuel tanker explosion, where 153 lives were lost on Tuesday evening.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, gave the assurance on Thursday when he led the Federal Government delegation on a condolence visit to the state.

He said President Bola Tinubu was devastated by the news of the incident, because of his passion for the citizens.

Akume expressed dismay, saying that it was among the worst explosions witnessed in the country.

“The President has ordered for an in-depth investigation into the case and the necessary measures will be taken because he has a passion for Jigawa and has made a lot of interventions in the state.

“We have visited some of the affected persons in Rashid Shekoni Hospital in Dutse and we are here at Majia community to extend the presidential condolences.

“The President has also ordered many agencies to come down to Jigawa and aid the victims in rebuilding the community and assisting the affected families”, Akume said.

Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who was among the delegation, expressed concern over the incident and condoled the families of those who lost their lives.

Abdulrazaq cautioned Nigerian citizens against scooping fuel whenever such accidents occurred.

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Muhammed, said an investigation had been launched by the corps.

He said that based on the presidential order, the corps would get more incentives to reduce road accidents in the country.

Muhammed expressed dismay over the unfortunate tanker explosion and cautioned road users violating regulations.

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State commended the Federal Government for the visit.

He commended the President for his multiple interventions and concerns for Jigawa State and its citizens.
