The Supreme Court has upheld the election of Senator Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the Governor of Kaduna State.
The apex court also upheld the elections of Governors Nasir Idris (Kebbi State) and Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe State).
In the Kaduna State case, a five-member panel of the Supreme Court unanimously held on Friday that the appeal by Hon. Mohammed Ashiru Isah of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was without merit.
Justice Tijjani Abubakar, who read the lead judgement, held that the appeal was unmeritorious, the appellants having failed to comply with the provision of Paragraph 18(1) and (3) of the First Schedule to the Electoral Act 2022 in relation to the filing of pre-hearing notice at the tribunal.
For Kebbi State, a five-member panel of the apex court unanimously dismissed the appeal of Major General Bande Aminu (rtd.), who was the candidate of the PDP in the last governorship election in the state.
Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, who read the lead judgement, held that the appeal Idris of the APC was without merit.
For Gombe State, the apex court dismissed the appeal filed by PDP’s Alhaji Jibrin Mohammed Barde,
Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, who read the lead judgement, held that the appellants failed to show that the concurrent findings of the election tribunal and the Court of Appeal were perverse.
Justice Kekere-Ekun resolved all the issues raised in the appeal against the appellants and proceeded to dismiss it.
