The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has called on governments at all levels to enact new laws for mandatory drug tests on anyone vying for public office in the country.
At a one-day symposium on drug abuse and moral decadence held at the New Education Theatre at Northwest University on Thursday, the Emir emphasised the government’s need to combat drug abuse, including substances like zakami, gadagi, and Tramol, among others.
He expressed dismay at the rampant cases of drug abuse involving holders of public offices in the country.
“Governments at all levels should enact new laws against drug abuse and subject anyone vying for public office to mandatory drug tests”, the Emir stated.
Receiving the new Kano Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Ibrahim Sallau Abdullahi, at his palace on Wednesday, the Emir called on the commission to as a matter of urgency deploy more personnel to curb reckless driving in the Kano metropolis.
He urged the residents to strictly adhere to rules and regulations, thus bolstering safety and protecting lives and property.
