Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has issued a three-month ultimatum to individuals who purchased houses in Kwankwasiyya, Amana, and Bandirawo cities.

He warned that failure to occupy or rent them out will lead to revocation and reallocation to those ready to reside in them.

The three cities, developed under former governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso’s administration, were sold to private buyers.

However, many of the houses remain unoccupied, prompting concerns over their deteriorating state and potential misuse.

The governor delivered the ultimatum on Monday after swearing in the newly appointed Commissioner for Housing Development, Ibrahim Adamu, who previously served as the Managing Director of the Kano Urban Property Development Authority.

‘We are giving all those who purchased houses in these cities, especially Kwankwasiyya and Amana, an ultimatum—either occupy them or rent them out.

‘If not, the government will revoke the allocation and sell them to those willing to live in them,’ he warned.

Expressing concern over the neglect of the estates, the governor stressed that his administration would not stand by and allow them to become hideouts for criminals.

He also charged the new commissioner with tackling Kano’s housing deficit, highlighting that the ministry was established to address both urban and rural housing challenges.

Yusuf further commended the Kano State House of Assembly for their continued support and cooperation in governance.
