Kano State Government on Saturday commenced plans for the inauguration of Gold Souk, a gold refining and trading market for Northern Nigeria in the state.
The market was established in 2021 by the then President, Muhammadu Buhari.
The state Commissioner for Solid Mineral and Natural Resources, Safiyanu Kachako, disclosed this on Saturday during a visit to Gold Souk located at Batakaye, Western Bye Pass, Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement by the Director of Public Enlightenment of the newly established ministry, Adamu Dabo, the commissioner pledged to visit the Federal Ministry of Solid Mineral Resources, Abuja.
The statement read, “Indeed, Kano is strategic and remains a commercial hub of northern states, hence the location of the gold market to provide a conducive atmosphere for the commodity stakeholders to mine, refine for local patronage and export to the world market directly from Kano.
“He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to leave no stone unturned in reaching out to all stakeholders within and outside the country for collaboration and capacity building to achieve the target goals.
“However, the commissioner, who expressed dismay over land encroachment he observed at the premises of the Gold Souk, quickly ordered for proper investigation with a view to addressing the sad development amicably”.
