The Katsina State Government has inaugurated a 15-member committee to guide the implementation of a new minimum wage of N70,000.

Led by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Faskari, the committee has been given three weeks to present strategies and recommendations, including the consequential adjustments for all categories of workers.

During the inauguration ceremony at the Deputy Governor’s residence in Katsina, Deputy Governor Farouk Lawal emphasized the state’s awareness of the economic pressures workers face, particularly following recent fuel subsidy removals.

He assured attendees that the government is committed to supporting workers by advancing the new wage policy.

This initiative, as highlighted by the State Commissioner of Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango, aims to enhance the standard of living for employees and ensure fair compensation.

The committee includes prominent state officials such as the Head of Civil Service, Falalu Bawale; the Commissioners for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Others are the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labor Matters; as well as representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), among others.

In his response, the SSG, representing the committee, pledged to deliver a feasible and sustainable implementation plan.

He also expressed gratitude to Governor Dikko Radda for his trust in the committee’s capabilities, reaffirming their commitment to balancing government resources with the welfare of workers.
