The Lagos State Government has arrested a suspect for allegedly vandalising a concrete barrier installed to prevent pedestrians from crossing the expressway at unauthorised points along Ikorodu Road.
The suspect was apprehended at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, during monitoring and enforcement operations carried out by officials of the state government.
Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the arrest in a post on X on Saturday.
According to Wahab, the suspect was allegedly caught deliberately removing iron rods, cables, steel reinforcements and other structural components from the concrete barrier.
“During monitoring and enforcement operations yesterday, our team apprehended a suspect at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, along the Ikorodu Road, for vandalising a concrete barrier installed to prevent pedestrians from crossing the expressway at unauthorised points,” the commissioner stated.
Wahab said the removed components were critical to the stability and effectiveness of the barrier, warning that such acts could compromise public safety.
He added that the suspect had been arrested and would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The commissioner said the enforcement action demonstrated the state government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of road users and residents.
The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to curb vandalism and protect public infrastructure across the state.
Authorities have repeatedly raised concerns over the removal of metal components from public structures, warning that such activities not only compromise safety but also lead to the waste of public funds invested in infrastructure.
