Lagos-Ibadan expressway accident leaves 5 dead

No fewer than five persons have been confirmed dead and five others severely injured in a road accident that occurred near Car Park C, Mowe, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The accident, which involved a yellow Mazda bus with registration number LGB465XA and an ash-coloured Howo truck with no registration number, occurred at approximately 1:39 pm on Wednesday.

DAILY POST learnt that the accident was caused by excessive speed, brake failure, and loss of control on the part of the truck, which rammed into the bus as the driver was negotiating a turn at Car Park C.

Spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, stating that a total of 12 passengers were involved.

Okpe said the injured victims were rushed to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the corpses were deposited at Idera Morgue.

She said, ‘A total of 12 passengers (seven male adults and five female adults) were involved in the crash. Two male adults and three female adults were killed, while five male adults and two female adults sustained injuries. The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, while the corpses were deposited at Idera Morgue.

‘The suspected causes of the crash were speeding, brake failure, and loss of control on the part of the Howo truck, which rammed into the Mazda bus as the driver was negotiating a turning point at Car Park C’.
