The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Task Force) has arrested 33 suspected criminals and recovered banned substances and dangerous weapons during a coordinated enforcement operation across parts of Lagos.
The operation, carried out on Monday, 27 July 2026, covered Ikate Bus Stop, Marwa Bus Stop, Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Obalende Underbridge, Law School Junction and other adjoining locations along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
According to the agency, the exercise targeted street urchins, suspected miscreants, drug addicts and peddlers, illegal commercial motorcyclists, commonly known as okada riders, street traders, illegal ticket touts and other individuals whose activities were considered a threat to public safety and environmental order.
The Task Force said officers recovered exhibits including Tramadol, Colorado, Cannabis sativa and dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and scissors during the operation.
It added that all 33 suspects had been charged before the appropriate courts in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017, and the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018, where applicable.
Speaking during a debriefing with officers at the agency’s headquarters, the Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, Adetayo Akerele, reaffirmed the agency’s determination to tackle criminal activities across the state.
“There is no room for criminality in Lagos State. Those engaged in criminal activities should either desist or relocate. We remain committed to enforcing the laws of the state and ensuring that residents continue to enjoy a safe, secure and orderly environment,” he said.
Akerele urged officers to sustain the momentum of ongoing enforcement operations and intensify efforts to combat criminality across the state. He also noted that the agency had made significant progress in curbing the activities of illegal omotaku operators on Lagos roads.
The Lagos State Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led enforcement operations aimed at eliminating criminal elements and maintaining law and order across the state.
