Governor Dauda Lawal has signed into law a bill establishing the Zamfara Institute of Information Technology (ZIIT), in a move aimed at driving digital transformation in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA), Dr. Habib Gajam, described the development as a historic milestone for technology and innovation in Zamfara.
He said the new law provides the legal and operational framework for the institute, which is expected to serve as a breeding ground for the next generation of technology professionals.
‘This marks a truly significant moment for the future of technology and innovation. Zamfara is ready for digitalisation’, Gajam said.
According to him, the establishment of ZIIT reflects the state government’s commitment to building a knowledge-driven economy, empowering young people with cutting-edge digital skills and positioning Zamfara as a technology and innovation hub in Northern Nigeria.
‘With ZIIT, Zamfara will now play a pivotal role in developing highly skilled professionals in software development, cybersecurity, data science, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies’, he said.
Gajam added that the institute would not only serve Zamfara but also the North-west region and Northern Nigeria at large, contributing to the broader Nigerian digital landscape.
‘This milestone reinforces our collective vision of leveraging technology to drive economic growth, innovation and inclusive development’, he said.
He commended Governor Lawal for what he described as visionary leadership and effective policy implementation.
‘We congratulate His Excellency for this visionary leadership and commend all stakeholders who worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality’, he added.
