The lawmaker representing the Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. George Adegeye has empowered no fewer than 1,000 indigent students with free Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) forms.

In a statement on Monday, Adegeye said the gesture was aimed at ensuring the educational standard of youth within the constituency.

According to him, the financial incapability of many families has been a major setback for the development of education in the country.

He said, “Tertiary education has the potential of building a virile and viable community but the major setback encountered by many families is financial constraints.

“The free UTME forms initiative is geared towards alleviating the financial burden many families have to bear within the constituency and ensuring that a good number of youths are not denied the opportunity to further their education due to financial constraints”.

Adegeye stated that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from different strata of society without consideration for their religious, political, and social affiliations.

The statement quoted the mother of one of the beneficiaries, Olanrewaju Bamidele, as saying that the initiative was coming at the right time when most families were faced with the reality of economic hardship.

“In Nigeria today a child without education may likely end up useless, education is important. This single act is enough to make the constituents give their unflinching support at all times”, she said
