Maiduguri flood: Governors show solidarity with Zulum

Governors from Lagos, Ondo, Adamawa, and Kwara States have pledged their support to Borno State following the devastating flood in Maiduguri, which has displaced thousands and left communities in dire need of assistance in the capital of the North East state.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu said on Thursday that their visit was to show solidarity with Governor Babagana Zulum and the residents impacted by the disaster.

In a message posted on X, Sanwo-Olu conveyed his deep concern for the affected families.

He described the disaster, as one of the worst floods in Maiduguri’s history, which has prompted a nationwide call for relief.

“Today, I joined the governors of Ondo, Adamawa, and Kwara on a visit to Borno State to extend our support to Governor Babagana Zulum in light of the tragic flooding in Maiduguri. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected by this disaster”, he said.

He emphasised the importance of a united response to the crisis, urging the nation to rally behind the state.

“The extent of the flooding in Maiduguri is truly devastating. As a nation, it is important that we come together to provide relief, assist in rescue operations, and ensure that those affected receive the necessary aid”, he said.

The governors commended the ongoing rescue efforts and lauded the resilience of the affected communities.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Maiduguri and commend the ongoing rescue efforts. The community’s resilience is truly inspiring, and Lagos remains dedicated to offering our support in every possible way”, Sanwo-Olu added.
