Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana was taken to hospital following a car accident in Turkey after Trabzonspor’s 2-0 victory over Hearts in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.

The Cameroon international, who is on loan at Trabzonspor, was reportedly hit from behind by another vehicle while returning home after the match. The collision involved multiple vehicles, according to reports from Turkey. (Reuters)

Onana underwent medical examinations at the hospital but was later discharged after the results showed no serious injuries.

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan confirmed the incident, reassuring supporters about the goalkeeper’s condition.

“Andre Onana was involved in a road traffic accident earlier this evening. There are no problems with him, and we wish him a speedy recovery,” Dogan said, according to GOAL.

The 30-year-old started Thursday’s victory over Hearts, keeping a clean sheet as the Turkish club continued its European campaign.

The result followed Trabzonspor’s 4-2 victory over Finnish side KuPS, further strengthening the team’s recent run of form.

Trabzonspor have also recorded convincing victories over Turkish rivals Besiktas and Galatasaray, winning the two matches by an aggregate score of 6-0.

The club are scheduled to face Rizespor in their next league fixture on Monday, although Onana’s availability for the match remains uncertain following the accident.

Onana joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 for a reported £43.8 million but faced criticism over inconsistent performances during his spell at Old Trafford.

His position came under pressure following the arrival of goalkeeper Senne Lammens, leading to his temporary move to Trabzonspor.

The goalkeeper’s return to the Turkish club has shown encouraging signs, with four clean sheets in five appearances, according to the information provided.

Onana will now continue to be monitored following the accident, while attention turns to whether he will be available for Trabzonspor’s next fixture.
