The presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and former Kano State governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has advised about 3,000 beneficiaries of a mass wedding scheme in the State against checking their spouses’ phones in order to avoid anything that could lead to the break-up of their marriages.

Kwankwaso gave the advice while making a remark during a reception organised for the couples by the Kano State government at the Government House on Saturday.

He said checking spouses’ phones is one of the major causes of marriage breakup in the country, advising them to shun anything that could cause disagreement among them.

“You have been advised by all and sundry. I believe you have been advised a thousand times. Ulamas, parents, relatives, and even business people have advised you on how to live peacefully with one another.

“But, I have one single piece of advice for you. That is checking your spouse’s phone. Don’t peep into your spouse’s phone as that is a major cause of marriage breakup”, Kwankwaso counselled.

Speaking on the governance style of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the NNPP national leader said: “We have made the right choice by electing Abba Kabir Yusuf as our governor. He is a good leader who has continued with our legacies. One of such legacies is this mass wedding.

“Apart from this, he is delivering people oriented projects. We call on the good people of Kano State to support his administration”.

In his address, the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, said the beneficiaries of the mass wedding were selected from across the 44 local government areas and the 484 Wards in the State.

According to him, not less than 30 couples were selected from each of the 44 local government areas of the state.

Governor Yusuf further said that the state government took complete responsibility for the mass wedding ceremony, which included payment of dowries, provision of furniture, foodstuff, and N20,000 grant for the brides to start up small-scale businesses at the comfort of their matrimonial homes.

He urged the new couples to live peacefully in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

Earlier, in his welcome remarks, the Commander-General of Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, said no fewer than 1,500 couples tied the knot on Saturday.

According to Sheikh Daurawa, out of a total of 1,800 intending couples, the wedding of 264 was suspended as they had tested positive to some ailments and were undergoing medical treatment.

He said that after their treatment, a new date would be announced for the wedding of the remaining 264 intending couples.
