The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria has directed its members to suspend the nationwide withdrawal of services from Monday.
In a statement on Saturday signed by its president, Alhaji Mansur Umar and National Secretary, Hon. Jude Okafor, the association said the suspension of the strike was to enable the Federal Government “take necessary measures to cushion our challenges in the overall interest of our dear nation”.
“All zonal, state and local government chapters of our association are hereby advised to comply”, the statement further stated.
Last Thursday, bread makers had embarked on a four-day warning strike over the rising cost of baking materials.
The spokesman of the Premium Breadmakers Association of Nigeria, Babalola Thomas said bakeries had been incurring a “huge loss” due to the continuous increase in baking materials and diesel, and that operating in the present environment was no longer sustainable.
