Many more Nigerians are renouncing their citizenship, according to the Federal Ministry of Interior.
While 150 Nigerians renounced their citizenship between 2006 and 2021, 159 did so in 2022 alone.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Shuaib Belgore gave these statistics at the 64th session of the State House Ministerial briefing, organised by the Presidential Communications Team in Aso Rock Villa.
Also, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola said the massive migration of Nigerians to other countries in search of greener pasture has increased the demands for travel passports.
According to him, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) issued 1,899,683 in 2022, describing that as the highest number of passport booklets in the past seven years.
Eleven days ago, NIS opened its portal for the 2023 recruitment exercise. According to the service, interested Nigerians are expected to apply as the process is for those willing to join the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Correctional, Firend Immigration Services Board.
In the application process listed on the service’s website, applicants are expected to undergo 12 hurdles to be successful.
