Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman is still basking in the euphoria of his first Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, with the Atalanta forward saying his second goal against Cameroon gave him goosebumps.

The 26-year-old scored three goals at the continental showpiece with two of them against Cameroon in the round of 16 as Nigeria booked a place in the quarter-finals against Angola.

In the 36th minute of the encounter, Lookman was played through by Victor Osimhen and his shot squeezed through goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa, who was chosen ahead of Manchester United’s Andre Onana.

In stoppage time, the former Leicester forward secured victory with a tidy finish from Calvin Bassey’s cross.

Reflecting on his experience on his debut AFCON, Lookman said he would never forget his second goal against the Indomitable Lions.

“I will probably say the second goal against Cameroon gave me goosebumps”, he said in an interview with Calister Enejele.

“With the celebration and everything after, I think it was crazy. That was probably the highlight and my parents were there to watch the game, which was nice”.

Recalling the Eagle’s most challenging encounter in Ivory Coast, the 26-year-old said their opening game against Equatorial Guinea was their toughest.

“Probably Equatorial Guinea because we played at 2 pm, the heat and humidity was tough for us. Probably you have to say that game”, Lookman added.

Lookman stated that he was happy with his role and contribution to the team.

“I was very happy obviously, being an attacking player you always want to help the team in that way”, he added.

“So yeah, I was very glad. I was happy to do that. But the team was amazing and everybody helped out”.

Lookman has been in fine form for Atalanta and he will hope to continue with the impressive form when Nigeria face South Africa and Benin Republic in the next phase of the World Cup qualifiers in June.
