Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has approved a N45 million cash reward for Nasarawa Amazons following the club’s victory in the 2026 Women’s Federation Cup final.

The governor announced the incentive package at a reception for the team at the Government House in Lafia on Friday, following the Amazons’ penalty shoot-out win over Heartland Queens.

According to the governor, N25 million has been allocated to the players, N15 million to the technical and management crew, while N5 million will go to the club’s supporters’ association in recognition of its backing throughout the competition.

Governor Sule also approved individual cash rewards for outstanding players. Hembafan Ayatsea, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and Udoka Unachukwu, who won the Best Goalkeeper award, will each receive $1,000. The remaining 34 players in the squad will receive $500 each.

Nasarawa Amazons secured the title after drawing 1-1 with Heartland Queens in regulation time before winning the penalty shoot-out 6-5 in the final played in Asaba. The victory marked the club’s first major trophy in four years.

Speaking at the reception, the governor commended the players, coaches and officials for their determination and discipline, describing the triumph as a source of pride for Nasarawa State.

The reward announcement comes amid public debate over the state’s recent expenditure measures. Some civil society groups have questioned the timing of the payout, citing the government’s decision to reduce certain allowances for civil servants and suspend the release of funds for some capital projects during the third quarter of the fiscal year.

However, state government officials said the reward would be funded through a dedicated sports development fund and would not affect the state’s recurrent expenditure commitments.
