The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has distributed relief items to victims of windstorms in the Ijumu and Lokoja Local Government Areas of Kogi State.
The Director-General of NEMA, Mr. Mustapha Ahmed, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday.
The DG, who was represented by the Head of Abuja Operations Office, Mr Justin Uwazuruonye, said the distribution was done in collaboration with the Kogi Emergency Management Agency.
While commiserating with the people and government of Kogi State over the unfortunate incident, he said the items were meant to cushion the effect of the incident.
He said the items distributed included foodstuffs, such as bags of rice, bags of beans, vegetable oil, tomato paste and spaghetti. Also distributed were mattresses, blankets, nylon mats, clothing for men, women, and children, buckets, cooking pots, stoves, plates, spoons, and cups.
The communities which were affected by a windstorm that destroyed houses in March are Iyara, Ayetoro, Agbaja, and Jamata in both Local Government Areas.
