Nigeria ended Day Two of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games in second place on the medals table after winning three gold and three silver medals.
The Nigerian contingent trails only Australia, who lead the standings with six gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
Nigeria’s strong start has placed the country ahead of hosts Scotland and England, two of the Commonwealth’s traditional sporting powers.
Scotland occupy third place with two gold and two silver medals, while England are fourth despite having won eight medals in total. England’s haul comprises one gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
Nigeria is also the highest-ranked African nation at this stage of the Games and, alongside Australia, the only country to have won at least three gold medals.
South Africa, the only other African nation currently in the top 10, are joint fifth with Canada after securing one gold and two bronze medals.
An unusual feature of Nigeria’s medal haul is that all six medals have been either gold or silver, with the team yet to claim a bronze medal.
The strong early showing provides an encouraging platform for Team Nigeria as competition continues in Glasgow, with athletes still expected to compete in several medal events.
New Zealand are seventh with two silver medals, while Wales are eighth with one silver. India and Malaysia complete the top 10 with one bronze medal each.
