The Vice Chancellor of the Nigeria Army University, Biu (NAUB), Prof. Kyari Mohammed has called on the matriculated students of the institution to justify the confidence reposed in them by their parents and guardians.

The Vice Chancellor was addressing the 977 students who were offered admission into the various programmes in the university on Tuesday, out of which 870 have successfully registered.

He said that the number was a remarkable increase from the previous year’s 333 registered candidates.

Mohammed also said that the increase is in response to the high demand for the university due to its high academic standard adding that there have been no compromise on quality and carrying capacity during the admission selection.

He also informed the students that in NAUB, sporting activities are encouraged for both staff and students, adding that there is now a new golf course in addition to other existing sporting facilities in the university, adding that there are days dedicated for sporting events to enable staff and students to learn to play golf in addition to other sports.

He expressed how lucky the newly admitted students are to have been part of the institution, which, he said, is one of Nigeria’s youngest and best universities in the country.

Mohammed further said that all programmes of the university had been accredited by the National Universities Commission with a score of 98 per cent accreditation. “This shows that the university is a very stable and competitive public university,” he said.

According to him, “this makes the NAUB a very stable and competitive public university. You must justify the confidence reposed in you by your admission.

“This year is historic in the life of this University because it is not only the year of your matriculation, but we shall also graduate our first batch of graduates at a convocation on our Foundation Day in October. This is the fifth matriculation in the life of this young, flourishing, and promising fountain of learning.

“Welcome and have a productive sojourn in this University. In this University we train you to be highly educated and productive members of society. The degree you will earn at the end of your study shall be awarded for both character and learning, therefore, you must abide by the rules and regulations of the university and laws of the land”.

The VC added that, “we shall provide the enabling environment for you to excel but we shall not hesitate to punish defaulters and lawbreakers. In this university, there is no room for anti-social behavior such as cultism, examination malpractice, violence, gender-based violence, and all forms of sexual harassment”.

He warned that, “our disciplinary standards are higher than other institutions, so be very careful. There are various channels of reporting infractions at both your department and the Students Affairs division, therefore, do not hesitate to report anyone or group that harasses you. We shall protect the weak and punish offenders”.

After administering the matriculation oath on the students, the Registrar, Brig. General Yahaya Abdulhamid congratulated the matriculated students as they have become bonafide students of the university.
