Nigerian bags Ukrainian award for promoting education, bilateral relations

The V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University Ukraine has awarded the prestigious certificate of merit to to its Nigerian representative, Dr. Cliff Ogbede, in appreciation of his contributions to the development of educational, scientific, cultural and social cooperation between the foremost Ukrainian university and Nigeria.

In a statement, the university’s Rector, Prof. Tetyana Kaganovska sincere gratitude of the entire staff of Karazin to Ogbede, for demonstrating high professional, moral and human qualities, and for the extensive information support of the university within the international arena, “especially in these hard times the Ukrainians are forced to fight to protect their sovereignty and democratic values”.

Apart from being a major scientific and cultural center, the university, established in 1804, is one of the oldest and leading universities in Eastern Europe, having been an academic hub of Ukraine and rated amongst the best classical universities in the country with records of graduates and professionals from many countries, including Nigeria.

The university cooperates with many institutions across the world and has produced three Nobel Laureates in Medicine, Economics and Physics.

The Rector applauded Ogbede for his leadership and commitment to the Ukrainian spirit.

Ogbede responded that Karazin university has shown strong commitment towards the growth of Nigeria and would continue to offer several programmes to help prepare Nigerian students and the major work force for the new global challenges, which include knowledge sharing, research and development, academic cooperation with Nigerian institutions and cultural exchange programmes between both countries.

Apart from the university’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in Medicine, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science, Economic and International Law, Ogbede said that the university has also introduced online professional courses in Emergency and Tactical Medicine and courses that tackle Power Losses in electrical networks and ways to improve transmission and achieve standard levels in electricity generation and transmission.

The university called for more efforts in developing and deepening Nigeria-Ukraine bilateral cooperation and the friendly relations, for the well-being of both countries.
