The Nigerian Institute of Journalism Alumni Association (NIJAA) has declared its support for the 2026 All Nigeria Rotary Peace Summit, scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 7, in Lagos.

The summit, which will take place at the Victoria Garden Event Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, is being convened under the leadership of Rotary International President, Olayinka Hakeem Babalola.

It is themed “Good Governance, Justice and Equity: Foundations for Sustainable Peace”, with the sub-theme “From Dialogue to Action: Forging a Sustainable Peace Legacy in Nigeria”.

As an institutional partner, NIJAA described the summit as an important platform for bringing together policymakers, peacebuilding experts, academics, security professionals, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to explore practical solutions to Nigeria’s peace and security challenges.

The association particularly welcomed the arrival in Lagos of international peacebuilding expert, Lea Perekrests, Director of Partnerships at the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

Perekrests is expected to deliver the keynote address titled “Global Perspectives on Good Governance, Justice and Equity as Foundations for Sustainable Peace”.

Ahead of the event, NIJAA National President, Muyiwa Akintunde, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to responsible journalism, constructive public discourse and the use of communication as a tool for national development.

He emphasised that journalists and media professionals have significant responsibilities in promoting understanding, encouraging accountability, amplifying constructive voices and contributing to a peaceful society.

As part of the partnership, Rotary International has offered complimentary participation to 10 NIJAA members, who will represent the association at the summit.

NIJAA described the gesture as recognition of the important role professional communicators and media practitioners play in advancing discussions on peace, justice, equity and good governance.

A major highlight of the summit will be the proposed signing of a Peace Legacy Accord and Agenda, alongside the presentation of a summit declaration and communiqué outlining recommendations and commitments towards achieving sustainable peace in Nigeria.

The association urged stakeholders, particularly media organisations and practitioners, to give the summit adequate attention and sustain public engagement on its recommendations beyond the event.

It maintained that sustainable peace requires more than dialogue and declarations, stressing the need for inclusive institutions, responsible leadership, justice, equity and the collective commitment of citizens.
