A social media celebrity, Idris Okuneye (well known as Bobrisky) has been sentenced to six months in prison for abusing the Naira notes.
A Federal High Court in Lagos did not give the crossdresser an option of fine.
In handing the sentence on Friday, Justice Abimbola Awogboro said that the verdict would serve as a deterrent to other persons fond of abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested the controversial personality a week ago.
Bobrisky, who has been embroiled in several controversies over the past weeks, was arrested in Lagos, and detained at the Lagos command of the EFCC.
