The President of the Nigeria Association for Physical and Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (NAPHER-SD), Prof. Florence Bola Adeyanju has congratulated some members of the association who were elected as executive members of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) on Thursday.
The NOC held the election in Jalingo, Taraba State.
A statement by NAPHER-SD’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Kehinde Lamidi stated that members Mr Tunde Popoola was elected as Secretary General, while Mr Olumide Oyedeji was elected Third Vice President and Mrs Olabisi Joseph became the Fourth Vice President.
Congratulating NAPHER-SD members, Adeyanju, who described the the election as peaceful, charged them to contribute positively to the upliftment and growth of sports in Nigeria.
“As the ambassadors of NAPHER-SD on the board of NOC, on behalf of the association, I pray God to give the executive members wisdom the enablement and powers to steer the the ship of the committee to an enviable status”.
Also, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) presented Adeyanju with Women and Sports Achievement Diploma, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the development and participation of women and girls in sports.
The presentation was done by NOC President, Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel.
Reacting to the award, the NAPHER-SD president appreciated the IOC for the recognition and promised not to relent on her oars until women in sports are given recognition and put in their rightful positions in the society.
