The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has congratulated the national female basketball team, D’Tigress for winning the Afro Basketball Championship over the weekend.
In a statement, NOC’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tony Nezianya said: ”Your incredible victory over Senegal in the Afro Basketball Championship is a testament to your unwavering passion, skill, and dedication.
”The entire nation stands in awe of your back-to-back triumph, an achievement that goes beyond mere words.
“This is also the fourth consecutive win, which truly demonstrates their exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
“The team’s perseverance and teamwork have undoubtedly paid off, and they have made their country proud.
”You have exemplified the true spirit of sportsmanship and have made Nigeria proud.
”May your success continue to inspire generations to come”.
Last Saturday, D’Tigress emerged African champions by beating Senegal 84-74 in the final of the 2023 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.
The victory was historic as the Nigerian ladies became only the second team ever, after Senegal to win four consecutive titles.
