Enyimba are the champions of Nigeria’s top flight club football!
The record-extending feat of nine titles was achieved this evening at the Mobolaji Johnson Area, on the Lagos Island as the championship playoff of this season’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) ended with the People’s Elephant being forced to a 1-1 ending by now deposed champions Rivers United.
Enyimba and United, as well as Remo Stars finished with nine points each, but the Aba side had the best goal advantage, while Remo Stars followed. Both sides will feature in the 2023/24 CAF Champions League, while third placed Rivers United will go for the CAF Confederation Cup.
In the last game of the match, and the playoff, Ekene Awazie shot Enyimba ahead in the 39th minuted. But Nyima Nwagua levelled three minutes into the restart.
Earlier in the day, Sunshine Stars beat Lobi Stars 3-1, while Remo Stars defeated Bendel Insurance 1-0.
