The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has reminded all EuroMatch-NPFL clubs of the acceptable procedures for raising grievances over match officiating and warned coaches and officials against making disparaging public comments about the league.
The Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, Dr Ayo Abdulrahman, said the advisory was necessary to protect the league’s image and prevent actions that could undermine partnership opportunities.
In a memo titled, “Warning Against Disparaging Statements by Club Coaches and Officials”, the league drew the attention of club leadership to provisions in its Frameworks and Rules prohibiting incendiary public statements capable of bringing the competition into disrepute.
The memo said the warning had become necessary as the 2026/27 season progressed, particularly following a trending video interview involving Sporting Lagos FC coach Jeffery Buter.
According to the league, Buter questioned the integrity of the centre referee following Sporting Lagos’ Matchday 6 encounter against Barau FC in Lagos.
The NPFL urged clubs to use established channels to communicate concerns over officiating and other league matters rather than making public statements that could damage the competition’s reputation.
The league said compliance with its rules remained important to protecting the integrity of the competition and maintaining the confidence of existing and prospective partners.
