League joint-top scorer, Osarenkhoe Imade has played down talks tipping him to win the highest goal scorer award for the 2022/23 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The Bendel Insurance striker has notched four goals in six games already this season, and he is tied with Plateau United defender Emmanuel Ifeanyi with many backing him to add more in the 12 more matches remaining in the regular season.

Imade revealed that he is focused on helping Bendel Insurance achieve its target of remaining in the NPFL.

“Our major focus this season is to remain in the NPFL. It is too early to tip us for the title. Yes, we have won four consecutive games but we are just trying to gather as many points now”, Imade said.

“And for me, my major focus is not the highest goal scorer award, I just want to keep doing my best for the team whether from the starting eleven or from the bench. So, we are playing abridged now, but we will also like to taste a regular season. As it stands, we just need to keep winning and we respect all teams”, he added.

To help his team, Imade needs to keep scoring goals and supporting his teammates, and he says he finds that very easy to do with his striking partner, Ismael Sarki, and other teammates who are bringing their best to the team as well.

“I believe our squad is formidable all-round. Aside from my four goals, Sarki also has three goals, Austin Ogunye has also scored a fantastic goal this season just as Deputy Echeta. At the same time, we have only conceded one goal so far. That means we are compact as a bunch and you can imagine the big teams that are in our group. We are just giving our best every game”, ha said.

With five wins and a draw in six games, Bendel Insurance are top of their group with 16 points, six points above Enyimba, Akwa United, and Plateau United and their next game is a trip to Ibadan to face 3SC on match-day seven.
