One victory out of three matches, three goals converted and two conceded. That was the summary of Matchday 1 of the Super 6 – the title deciding tournament of this season’s Nigeria Premier League (NPL).

Defending champions Rivers United registered strong intention of not surrendering their title as they won the only match of the day. A questionable call resulted in the Pride of Rivers’ goal from the spot in the 63rd minute as defender Chidiebube Duru converted against Sunshine Stars.

In the first game of the rain-soaked day, another penalty from a contact that appeared outside the area shot Enyimba 2-1 against Remo Stars in the second match through Chukwuemeka Obioma nine minutes to regulation time. But Nduka Harrison ensured that the Ikenne-Remo side shared honours in the end with his goal in the third minute of added time.

Adiele Eriugo had shot Enyimba ahead in the 60th minute, while former Super Eagles striker Junior Lokosa drew level in the 77th minute.

In the last fixture of MatchDay 1, Bendel Insurance and Lobi Stars denied the fans any goal.

The playoffs winners and runners-up will represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League, while No. 3 will battle for honours in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Monday’s fixtures: Lobi Stars v Enyimba (2 pm), Rivers United v Remo Stars (4 pm), Bendel Insurance v Sunshine Stars (6 pm).
