The Commandant-General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has disclosed that corps has promoted 9000 personnel across its various commands in the country.
Audi, who visited the Rivers Command, said he was committed to ensuring the protection of all critical national assets and infrastructure across the nation.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), NSCDC, Rivers State Command, SC Olufemi Ayodele, said Audi paid the command a visit to encourage and motivate the personnel.
The statement said Audi called on the command to ensure that the fight against crude oil theft, training, supervision, monitoring and Issuing of operating license to private security guard practitioners, disaster management and other statutory mandate of the corps were effectively carried out.
Audi said the government and the public reposed so much trust in the corps and urged the personnel to justify their existence by discharging assigned duties effectively and in tandem with the statutory mandate.
He said: “Let me affirm to you officers and men that Rivers State Command is obviously doing well but to whom must is given much is expected; you must renew your commitment in the discharge of Corps’ statutory mandate by projecting the good image of this noble organization.
“Repositioning this Corps to a wold class elite organization is a long age vision of mine and I am very passionate about it.
“As an effective and hardworking leader within this three years under my watch; you can attest to the fact that there has been tremendous transformation so far; starting from the introduction of career progression development courses in our colleges to training and retraining of personnel in order to enhance professionalism and efficiency and clearing of backlog of promotions which had earlier rendered many officers devastated and demoralized.
“This administration painstakingly looked into the overwhelming challenges and today I am happy to see your excitement and jubilation because of the recent 2024 promotion in which over 9000 personnel benefited across the nation”.
“It is in this spirit I therefore charge you to continue to fan the ember of progress by putting in your best in every areas you are assigned; knowing fully well that you have a Commandant General who cares more about your welfare, career development and overall success”.
“The protection of critical national assets and infrastructure must be given utmost priority because this is what we are paid for and your unwavering commitment is needed without compromise; the economy of our nation rests on the critical assets and these must be safeguarded and secured from economic saboteurs”.
The CG further thanked the government of Rivers State for the donation of 10 operational vehicle which he officially inaugurated for use by the command.
He noted that the delay and short payments of salary witnessed by some personnel was not deliberate but a computer system error, which he said had been corrected by the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation as he affirmed that the balance and adjustment would reflect in subsequent payments.
