The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed has announced his resignation from the commission, effective from 30th June.
A source said that Rasheed “stepped down” to continue his journey in academia at the Bayero University, Kano, where he was the Vice Chancellor from 2010 to 2015.
He took over as NUC Executive Secretary in 2016 from Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, who headed the commission in an acting capacity.
Rasheed announced his resignation on Monday at the NUC headquarters while approving the issuance of a provisional licence to Kogi State University, Kabba, Kogi State.
He described the new university as his last baby in the commission, having granted approvals to numerous universities in the country during his seven-year administration.
Rasheed did not state the reasons for his resignation.
