NURTW declares support for Tinubu, Bamigbetan in APC primaries

Preident Bola Tinubu and frontline House of Representatives aspirant, Hon. Kehinde Bamigbetan have received the endorsement of members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oshodi-Isolo federal constituency II, who are also card -carrying members of the All Progressives Congress in Oshodi-Isolo federal constituency II of Lagos State at the forthcoming APC primaries.

At a meeting with NURTW branches B and D of Ejigbo/Isolo area on Tuesday, Bamigbetan pledged a bus ownership scheme in partnership with the Consumer Credit Corporation established by the Tinubu administration.

He promised the group, led by Comrade Bashir Olowu and Alhaji Nurudeen Oladejobi, to revive co-operatives scheme grants for wives of transport workers to run small businesses.

Earlier, Olowu highlighted the purpose of Bamigbetan’s visit and urge members to listen attentively and assess his vision.

He expressed strong confidence in Bamigbetan as ‘the people’s choice’, encouraging the union to consider aligning with him.

A former Executive Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Bamigbetan expressed profound gratitude to the leadership and entire executive council for the opportunity to engage with the union.

He introduced himself as a dedicated political disciple of President Tinubu and a long-time resident of Ejigbo.

Recounting his deep roots in the community, Bamigbetan highlighted key interventions dating back to 2003 when he served as Deputy Chief Press Secretary to then-Governor Tinubu.

He recalled that he played a pivotal role in facilitating the reconstruction of the dilapidated Idimu Road and the effective channeling of erosion into the Ilufunmi canal. These projects, he noted, transformed the area and restored property values.

He paid tribute to the Ojon of Ejigbo and Ijan Land, HRM Oba Morufu Ojoola, who nominated him for the Chairmanship of Ejigbo LCDA. As Chairman, Bamigbetan launched the impactful Vision 3×3 agenda, which delivered tangible dividends to residents.

Key initiatives included the provision of free school uniforms, desks and benches, and nutritious meals for primary school children on Mondays produced by local tailors, carpenters, and bakers.

His administration also built Asiwaju Bola Tinubu Primary School in Ageke, Oladele Alake Primary School and sposored students for the Joint Matriculation Examinations and the General Certificate of Education.

He said he ran a worker and artisan- friendly government, which supported bricklayers and welders to build 182 culverts by Ejigbo bricklayers to boost the local economy.

In their responses, union members overwhelmingly endorsed Bamigbetan, with many affectionately referring to him as ‘Mr. Talk and Do’.

They testified to his integrity and past support for the union, particularly during his tenure as LCDA Chairman when he empowered members through revenue collection roles.

The members pledged their 100% support, while offering constructive advice, urging him to address past electoral loopholes, strengthen grassroots mobilisation, and tackling security concerns at polling units, especially in Okota.

Olowu praised Bamigbetan for his unwavering accessibility and support for the NURTW.

He recounted instances where the House of Representatives’ aspirant stood by him even at midnight to resolve critical issues, describing him as a reliable ally who made union dividends accessible.

In a firm show of solidarity, Olowu declared: ‘If KOK does not fulfill these promises, hold me accountable. But I believe he will deliver’.
