No fewer than 772 batch B stream I corps members have concluded their national service in Gombe State, while three got an extension, and seven were said to have absconded.
Disclosing this on Thursday at a low-key passing out ceremony of the batch, Gombe State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Chinwe Nwachuku, noted that out of a total of 782, only 772 have satisfactorily completed their service.
Saturday PUNCH reports that this is a sequel to various offences committed by the affected persons.
She said, “Seven absconded and three have had their service extended. Balance of 772 to pass out”.
Speaking further on her delight to address the 772 corps members, on their passing out ceremony, Nwachuku congratulated them on achieving this feat of serving their fatherland in Gombe State.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our lives. You have completed your service to the nation, and it’s time to bid farewell to this chapter of your journey. We came together as strangers, but we leave as friends, united by shared experiences and memories.
“As we go our separate ways, remember that the values and skills developed during the service year will stay with you forever. Let’s hold on to the spirit of service, discipline and resilience that has defined our service year”, Nwachuku said.
Nwachuku lauded them for their active participation in Community Development Service (CDS) adding “Let me at this juncture appreciate the effort of Corps Members who stood out in Community Development Service by initiating and executing viable projects in their host communities. Your efforts have complemented the efforts of the Government in developing rural communities. May I on behalf of the Director–General Brig. Gen YD Ahmed, express the profound gratitude of NYSC Management for your enormous contributions that is keeping the scheme visible and relevant. May your labour of love be rewarded”.
Speaking further she urged them to be good ambassadors of NYSC, adding that, “As you venture into new horizons, let’s keep the bonds of friendship and continue to support and uplift each other. Finally, it is pertinent I charge you to be good ambassadors of the NYSC scheme. My dear children may our paths cross again and may our future be bright and prosperous. See you at the top soonest”.
