Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called the attention of the Ogun State Government to the poor condition of a healthcare centre at his ancestral home in the Ibogun-Olaogun area of the Ifo Local Government Area of the state.
Obasanjo said that the poor healthcare facility was serving 40 communities in the council, saying it has been overstretched.
At the 2022 Ibogun Olaogun Day celebration, held in the town on Monday, Obasanjo said: “This health care facility needs the state government’s attention, as about 40 communities patronize the existing health centre, while the facility has been overstretched”.
Obasanjo said that the new town hall and palace projects would be pursued vigorously “and as usual we shall be judicious in our spending of your donations to achieve the completion of the projects”.
Highlights of the ceremony included the distribution of free eyeglasses to screened beneficiaries and the distribution of free solar torchlights with the pictures of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi; and his running, Senator Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed emboldened on the souvenirs.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Ibogun Olaogun Project, Mr Wole Adebayo had said that Obasanjo spent about N15 million in the 2021-2022 school session on academic and infrastructure needs in his council.
Adebayo acknowledged the support of the former President on the development of the town.
He said: “We shall continue to always appreciate Baba for his love and affection for this town.
“He has spent over N10 million on the educational development of our new grammar school.
“This is apart from the N5 million he spent on the construction of desks and chairs for the school.
“Our target now is for the establishment of the school laboratory and other amenities for successful use of the pupils”.
Also, the President of Ibogun Olaogun Community Development Association, Chief Olatunji Okunade said that the continuous increase in the number of students necessitated the need to embark on and complete the third phase of the school building project, which he said included the ground floor of eight classrooms.
He appealed to the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun “to help upgrade our health centre facilities to general hospital standard to effectively meet the health care responsibilities of people in 36 Ibogun communities”.
