Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi has dismissed the doctored pictures showing him with United States President Donald Trump, and the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (popularly known as MC Oluomo).
In November 2024, CableCheck published a fact-check article pertaining to the viral photo showing Obi and MC Oluomo standing beside each other.
Social media users who had posted the viral pictures claimed that Obi visited MC Oluomo to pay homage and expressed readiness to work with the NURTW president.
CableCheck observed that the viral picture was photoshopped.
There have been other photoshopped pictures used to drive different narratives about the former Anambra State governor.
The picture showing Obi and Trump shaking hands was also photoshopped.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Obi described both pictures as ‘fake and doctored’, adding that he has neither met with Trump recently nor held any meeting with MC Oluomo.
Obi said that the pictures ‘are not only misleading but deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public.
‘For the avoidance of doubt, if I had such meetings, I would have personally made them public on my X handle.
‘My politics has never been about seeking praise or cheap publicity; it is about confronting the real problems of Nigeria and working towards solutions grounded in integrity, accountability, and transparency.
‘My politics is strictly focused on addressing the plight of the suffering Nigerians, by tackling insecurity, rule of law, education, healthcare, and pulling millions out of poverty’.
