The Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday officially presented brand new team buses to the state football teams Warri Wolves and Delta Queens.
The gesture follows recent challenges experienced by the Warri Wolves during an away trip to Maiduguri, an isolated occurrence that is foreign to sports in Delta State.
Presenting the buses, Oborevwori reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of athletes and the development of sports across the state.
‘Delta state when it comes to sports in Nigeria is doing very well and you need to motivate the players. I was told that they were going for an away game and they had a flat tyre and some other issues that derailed them.
‘I called the Chairman Sports Commission and told him that I’m going to procure two coaster and two hiace buses, one set for the Warri Wolves and the other set for the Delta Queens and this will motivate them,” the governor said.
Speaking after receiving the buses, Coach of Delta Queens, Samson Keshi, and Captain of Delta Queens, Owoeye Temilope Jenifer, expressed their profound gratitude to the governor, promising to always do their best to make the state proud.
Speaking to the press after the presentation, the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori, assured that the state government and his commission will continue to prioritise the welfare of all athletes and teams, while working tirelessly to sustain Delta’s position as the leading sports hub in Nigeria.
