Nigerian banks have announced changes to operating hours ahead of the 31 January deadline for phasing out old naira notes.
FirstBank of Nigeria Limited, Standard Chartered, Wema Banks, and many others declared that their branches would be open for cash deposits on Saturday and Sunday.
The bank made the statement in a messages to customers on Friday, via their social media platforms and customers’ emails.
Earlier, the Central Bank of Nigeria had directed commercial banks to operate on Saturday to enable customers to return outdated Naira notes.
First Bank message to customers reads: “This is to notify the general public that all our branches will be open on Saturday and Sunday just to receive cash.
“All old Naira notes of series 200, 500, and 1,000 will cease to be in use from the 31st of January”.
Wema Bank also told its customers that the bank would be open on Saturday and Sunday. Its message reads: “The deadline to deposit your old Naira notes of ₦200, ₦500, and ₦1,000 is almost here.
“Wema Bank branches will be open this Saturday and Sunday between 9 am and 3 pm.
“Hurry to the branch closest to you and deposit the cash!”
