The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, on Friday, urged newly elevated traditional title holders to use their positions for the development of Ibadanland.
He gave this advice during the promotion of six traditional chiefs in the Balogun line, held at the Olubadan palace, Oke Aremo, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The newly promoted chiefs include Wasiu Ajimobi, who was promoted from Ayingun Balogun to Ikolaba Balogun of Ibadanland; Mikail Orogunmodi, elevated from Aare Ago Balogun to Asaaju Balogun of Ibadanland; and Taofeek Ayoade, who moved from Lagunna Balogun to Ayingun Balogun of Ibadanland.
Others are Lateef Akintola, promoted from Oota Balogun to Aare Ago Balogun of Ibadanland; Nureni Akanbi, who advanced from Aare Egbe Omo Balogun to Lagunna Balogun of Ibadanland; and Chief Kayode Kadelu, who rose from Gbonka Balogun to become Oota Balogun of Ibadanland.
Oba Olakulehin noted that the promotions were in line with the tradition of ascendancy to the Olubadan stool.
“You have been elevated to various new positions in the Balogun line today. I congratulate you all.
“I want you to use your new positions to work for the development and progress of Ibadanland in all areas of human endeavour. Let your elevation serve as a call for more commitment and service to the development of Ibadanland.”
The Oluwo of Ibadanland, Chief Wahab Labosinde, decorated the elevated chiefs with traditional Akoko leaves during the ceremony.
Dignitaries at the event included members of the Olubadan-in-Council, among them the former Governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja; Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole-Foko; Osi Balogun, High Chief John Isioye-Dada; Asipa Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi; Ekerin Olubadan, Oba Hamidu Ajibade; and Ekerin Balogun, High Chief Akeem Adewoyin.
