The Presidency has criticised Afrobeat star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his activities on social media during the 15 August Osun State governorship election.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, said the singer could not have acted in the same manner in countries such as Rwanda or Ethiopia.
Ajayi made the remarks during an interview on Symfoni TV while reacting to Davido’s use of social media during the governorship poll.
The presidential aide accused the singer of using his social media platforms to openly support his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who was declared winner of the election.
According to Ajayi, Davido’s activities during the election violated democratic norms, as he used his influence and online platforms in support of the incumbent governor.
Adeleke, who contested for re-election, emerged victorious in the 15 August governorship poll. Davido had publicly expressed support for his uncle throughout the election period.
