The Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State, Tosin Odeyemi, has resigned from the party and been appointed Acting State Chairman of the newly registered Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA).
Odeyemi, a close ally of former Kano State Governor, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, announced his resignation in a letter dated 16 July and addressed to the NNPP National Chairman. He did not state the reason for his decision.
In the brief resignation letter, Odeyemi wrote: “I do hereby resign from your party. Delete my names and details from your register.”
On Saturday, he formally unveiled his new political affiliation by sharing his letter of appointment as the pioneer Acting Chairman of the DLA in Osun State, confirming that he had accepted the role.
His appointment was conveyed in a letter dated 17 July 2026 and signed by the DLA National Chairman, Samuel Memeh.
According to the letter, the appointment followed the approval of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
It stated: “Following the approval of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and acting pursuant to the powers of the National Chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) under the Constitution of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), you are hereby appointed as the Acting State Chairman (Protem) of the Osun State Chapter of the Party with immediate effect.”
The letter also outlined his responsibilities, including establishing and strengthening party structures across the state, upholding the party’s constitution and ideology, and reporting directly to the National Working Committee on the activities and progress of the Osun chapter.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, Odeyemi thanked the DLA National Chairman, the NEC and the NWC for the confidence reposed in him.
“I accept this responsibility with humility and a deep sense of duty. Our immediate task is to bring every genuine member together, ensure discipline, and make the DLA a credible alternative for the people of Osun who are yearning for purposeful leadership,” he said.
He also pledged that the party’s Osun chapter would operate with transparency under his leadership and called on members and stakeholders to support the new political platform.
