The ruling houses in Ita-Akun community, Ikire, Osun State have sought urgent intervention of the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in resolving the controversies on the alleged disregard for customs in the appointment of a new monarch for the community.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Monday on behalf of the four ruling houses in the town –  Ademuyiwa, Falade, Metiku and Atere –  Chief Adeoye Dairo called on the governor to investigate the process of appointment of the new Sooko of Ita-Akun.

Dairo, who demanded an immediate reversal of the appointment to prevent crises in the community, said the title of Sooko was an exclusive right of only members of the four ruling houses in the town.

According to him, the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters acted in disregard for the laws and traditions with the appointment of a new Sooko outside the recognised ruling houses.

He said, “We call on His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan, to look into this issue. A petition has been written to Osun Oba’s Council to prevail on the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy.

“We also call on the governor to reverse the appointment of new Sooko of Ita-Akun, Ikire. We want the government, under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, to look vividly into the activities of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy with a view to sanitising the ministry.

“The governor must also investigate the appointment of new Sooko before coronation will be done to afford causing unrest in the community, as people will not just look on as their tradition is being trampled upon”.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Femi Ogundun, declined reaction when contacted by our correspondent.
