The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four officers captured in a viral video allegedly demanding money from a motorist along the Ijebu-Ode–Ore–Benin Expressway.
The command disclosed this in a statement on Friday, identifying the officers as Assistant Superintendent of Police Elomore Sodayo, Inspector Adefila Adewale, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi and Inspector Odusola Peter.
Addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Akure, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, said the Force had zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct.
He said a comprehensive investigation had been ordered to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the level of culpability of each officer involved.
Ohagwu stressed that the Nigeria Police Force remained a disciplined and professional institution that would not tolerate misconduct, incivility or any action capable of undermining public confidence.
He added that officers were expected to conduct themselves professionally, respect human dignity and comply strictly with the Force’s Code of Conduct and Standard Operating Procedures.
“The Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined and professional institution that does not condone any form of misconduct, incivility or actions capable of undermining public confidence, promoting ethnic division or bringing the Force into disrepute,” the commissioner said.
He assured members of the public that the investigation would be thorough and transparent, adding that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with police regulations.
