The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned two persons – Adeniyi Atinuke and Ade-Ojo Isaac – before a Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Akure, over the death of a socialite, Mr Oladoyinbo Adebayo (popularly known as Say Bayo).

The deceased was found dead in his car on December 10, 2023, at Ijapo Estate, Akure. Thereafter, the defendants were arrested and charged in court over the matter. They were arraigned in court on Friday.

They were alleged to have committed a felony “to wit perversion of justice and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 126 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006″.

According to the prosecution, Atinuke was alleged to have “become an accessory after the fact with regard to the death of one Oladoyinbo Sunday Adebayo ‘Alias Say Bayo’ and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under section of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Law of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.”

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Wada Simeon, requested permission from the court to withdraw his earlier application on notice to remand both defendants in the correctional centre in Akure.

After withdrawing the application, Counsel to the first defendant(Adeniyi Atinuke), Mr A.O Afolabi, presented an application for his client’s bail and promised she would be presented in court on every adjournment date.

Similarly, counsel to the second defendant, Mr Stephen Ademuagun, placed the client’s application for bail on notice and promised that the defendant would not jump bail. The prosecutor did not object to the applications for bail.

The magistrate, Chief Magistrate Damilola Sekoni, adjourned the matter till January 29, 2024, to rule on both bail applications.
