Police arrest suspected fraudster, recover fake currencies

Operatives of the Kaduna Police Command have arrested a 25-year-old suspected fraudster, Sanusi Ahmed of Sokoto Rima quarters, who specialises in circulating counterfeit currencies in Kaduna.

Briefing newsmen on the arrest on Monday, the Command’s spokesman, Abubakar Sadiq, said the suspect was arrested based on credible intelligence.

He said, ‘On 8th May 2025, at about 1600 hours, based on credible intelligence, the Katsina Police Command succeeded in arresting a notorious suspected fraudster, Sanusi Ahmed, male, age 25, Sokoto Rima quarters, Katsina State, who specialised in circulating counterfeit currencies.

‘Upon conducting a thorough search of the suspect’s residence, situated at the above-mentioned address, the following exhibits were recovered.

‘Three hundred and forty-five pieces of counterfeit 100 USD denomination, five pieces of counterfeit 10,000 CFA, two bottles containing suspected criminal charms among others’.

Sadiq further explained that the suspect is currently in custody as the investigation into the case has begun, so his accomplice can be nabbed.

The Kastina Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, commends the efforts of the operatives and the public for their continued support and cooperation in the ongoing fight against all forms of crime and criminality.

He further reaffirms the commitment of the command towards ensuring the safety and security of the people of Katsina State.
