The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have received N500 million each from Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative for Africa (ASR Africa) as a security sector support grant.

The grant was given as part of Abdul Samad Rabiu Social Corporate Responsibility and support for security agencies in the country.

According to a statement from the Public Relations Officers of the two agencies, cheques for the grants were presented to the agencies on Friday at their headquarters in Abuja.

In a statement, NIS spokesman, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Tony Akuneme said that the Comptroller General, Isah Jere Idris received the award letter, and commended Rabiu, who is also the Chairman, BUA Group for the initiative and for recognising the strides of the Service.

Jere restated the Service’s commitment to Nigeria as well as global security while assuring the delegation of ASR Africa that the grant would be effectively utilized.

The grant, which was part of efforts of the Chairman of BUA Group to give back to the African continent, was presented by the Managing Director/CEO of Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative for Africa, Mr Ubon Udoh.

The NCoS Controller General, Haliru Nababa also received a grant for the Service.

Udoh said that the organisation was set up as a vehicle to drive the Chairman’s mission for Nigerian and Africa and to create a platform where Nigerians and Africans can take responsibility to solve their own developmental problems by looking inwards.

This initiative has three thematic areas which include Health, Education, and Social development. NCoS through her rehabilitation and reformation programmes fall under the third thematic area hence the grant, Udoh stated.

Nababa applauded the initiative and promised to make judicious use of the grant as an intervention to improve the security of custodial centers by adding another layer of technological surveillance that would enhance the remote monitoring frameworks.
