The former pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Jesus House, Washington DC, the United States, Prince Afolabi Ghandi Laoye was on Friday enthroned by the kingmakers as the Soun of Ogbomosoland.
He succeeds Oba Jimoh Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III who passed on on 12th December 2021.
Laoye was installed in the early hours of the day with the crowd gathered at the palace cheering and eulogising the new monarch as he sat on the throne of his forbearers.
He arrived in Ogbomoso early on Friday in a private helicopter, which landed at Ogbomoso Grammar School, before moving to the palace for the ritual rite and installation as the Soun.
Laoye was selected as the Soun by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde last week Saturday.
Last week, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola announced Laoye’s selection by the governor, after the long-drawn processes specified under the law.
“His Excellency congratulates the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears”, the statement added.
