There are strong indications that the House of Representatives may resume from its Easter and Sallah break at the main chambers.
Since the renovation works started in 2022, members have been using a makeshift chamber.
The Senate chamber and other parts of the National Assembly building are also undergoing renovation.
A memo to the members of the House by the Clerk, Dr. Yahaya DanZaria, and seen by newsmen on Friday, indicated that resumption has been postponed from Tuesday, 16th April to Tuesday, 23rd April 2024.
The memo read, “Dear honourable members, I write to respectfully inform you that the resumption date from the ongoing recess has been rescheduled from Tuesday, 16th April 2024, to Tuesday, 23rd April 2024.
“All inconveniences are highly regretted. Your understanding or cooperation regarding this change is highly appreciated. Please make necessary adjustments to your schedules and ensure your presence on the new resumption date.
“I wish you all productive constituency engagements during this extended recess period. Please stay safe and take all necessary precautions”.
Before the renovation work commenced, the National Assembly complex was always flooded due to heavy rainfall.
In 2019, over N30 billion was budgeted for the renovation of the complex, but the amount sparked criticism and was reviewed to N9 billion.
