Former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand has identified Nigerian-born France international Michael Olise as his favourite player at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ferdinand overlooked global stars including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappé, instead praising Olise’s performances for France during the tournament.

The 47-year-old said he would “want to buy a ticket” simply to watch the Bayern Munich winger in action, describing him as a player who brings excitement and flair to the game.

Olise has been one of France’s standout performers at the World Cup, providing five assists in seven matches — the highest tally by any player in the competition.

France were eliminated from the title race after a 2-0 semi-final defeat by Spain and will face England in the bronze medal match on Saturday.

Speaking on his Rio Vlogs ahead of the fixture, Ferdinand said Olise’s style of play had particularly impressed him throughout the tournament.

“I want just someone with flair, man. Someone that makes me want to buy a ticket to go to a game, makes me want to stay to the end and don’t miss the end because of traffic, because he might do something again. This World Cup, it has to be Olise,” Ferdinand said via RioMeets.

Olise’s impressive displays for France and Bayern Munich have attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Reports suggest the 24-year-old is interested in a move to Real Madrid and has informed Bayern Munich of his intentions.

However, Bayern’s reported valuation of more than €200 million is said to be a major obstacle for potential suitors.
